The Department of Gastroenterology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University was founded in 1957, partially moved from the Westward of Shanghai First Medical College, after several generations of unremitting efforts, it is now a doctoral and master's degree awarding point, a national clinical pharmacology base, and a Chongqing Digestive Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center.

The Department of Gastroenterology of Jinshan Campus adheres to the concept of "fine specialty, large center", focusing on the development of characteristic specialties and endoscopy center, which is composed of three parts: inpatient department, outpatient department and endoscopy center, with 22 beds, about 1,000 inpatients per year, about 30,000 outpatient visits per year, and about 12,000 diagnosis and treatment in the endoscopy center. At present, there are 9 physicians, 4 with senior titles and 4 with intermediate titles. It has carried out special outpatient clinics for the diagnosis and treatment of early tumor cancer, digestive psychosomatic diseases, functional gastrointestinal diseases, refractory Helicobacter pylori, refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and chronic hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases.

Founded in 2014 with a total area of 1,500 square meters, the Endoscopy Center in Jinshan Hospital is one of the largest, most advanced and most complete endoscopy centers in southwest China, integrating endoscopic diagnosis, treatment, scientific research and teaching. High-level advanced endoscopic technologies such as endoscopic submucosal tunnel esophageal lesion resection, endoscopic submucosal mass dissection, endoscopic ultrasound diagnosis and treatment technology, esophageal variceal ligation, gastric variceal adhesion, esophageal stent implantation, percutaneous gastrostomy and other endoscopic advanced technologies have been carried out.

The department has always adhered to innovation and development, paid attention to talent introduction, training, technological innovation and development, and has trained dozens of professional graduate students since its establishment.
