The Gastrointestinal Surgery Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University is the Gastrointestinal surgery disease treatment center of Chongqing, the national key clinical specialty, and the medical quality control center of chongqing General Surgery department (including liver, pancreas and small intestine transplantation). It took the lead in carrying out laparoscopic colorectal surgery in Chongqing, and the anus preservation rate of rectal cancer and the survival rate of gastrointestinal tumors are both at the advanced level in China. In June 2013,we won the first prize of laparoscopic group in the video contest of gastric cancer surgery in the 8th National Academic Conference on Gastric Cancer. In September 2013,we successfully performed the first laparoscopic total pelvic viscerectomy for rectal cancer in China. In recent years, the comprehensive treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes carried out jointly with the Department of Endocrinology .
There are 28 doctors in the department, including 7 professors, 8 associate professors and 15 doctoral degree winners.Ten students have studied abroad, including University of Cologne Medical School, Tottori University Medical Center, University of London Cancer Institute, University of Chicago Medical Center, etc.
The department has electronic gastroscope, electronic colonoscope, gastrointestinal dynamics examination instrument and multi-functional microwave therapy instrument and other advanced examination and treatment instruments.Currently, there are 144 open beds for gastrointestinal surgery in this department and 45 open beds for gastrointestinal surgery on Jinshan Campus. The department has more than 1800 operations per year, including more than 300 cases of radical resection of gastric cancer, more than 400 cases of radical resection of colon cancer, more than 500 cases of radical resection of rectal cancer, and more than 600 cases of benign anorectal diseases. In terms of scientific research,we had won a number of Chinese new patents, 42 scientific research projects, and published more than 300 papers, including 40 SCI papers.
The department has a young specialist nursing team. In 2011 we established the specialized nursing characteristic of "the wound/colostomy care team" (composed of international wound healer, colostomy division). The "sunshine home" colostomy patients club activities were held every quarter , which had formed a certain regional influence as a nursing brand.

Laparoscopic surgery for gastrointestinal tumors, enteral and parenteral nutrition, interventional therapy for gastrointestinal tumors,stapled prolapse and hemorrhoid mucosal circumcision (including annular mixed hemorrhoids and rectal mucosal prolapse), comprehensive treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes, standardized comprehensive treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumor, multidisciplinary treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer (MDT).
